FAQs

What if I can’t afford your fee?

If you’re worried about the fee, I would encourage you to reach out anyway! In many cases, there’s a way to work things out. If your insurance offers out-of-network coverage, I can help you find your deductible and walk you through ways to take advantage of the reimbursement you qualify for.

What is the initial process like?

First, during a free consultation, I’ll ask about your current concerns, answer any questions you have, and we can see if my practice will be a good fit for your needs. Then, depending on the complexity of your concerns, the first 1-2 sessions will be intake sessions where I gather information that will help me understand how I can help. After the intake process is complete, I’ll put together a treatment plan.

How long does therapy take?

This depends! In general, psychodynamic therapy is long-term, but the actual length of therapy will depend on many factors that include the nature of your concerns, how you define “healing,” and the effort you’re able to bring. No results can be guaranteed. However, with regular sessions, many people see significant improvements in about 6-8 months (about 24-30 sessions). Other folks need a more intermittent or sporadic approach, may be seeking radical changes that are significantly more than a 6-8 month timeframe will allow, or may simply envision therapy to be a long-term support.

After the first 2-3 sessions, a treatment plan and Good Faith Estimate (GFE) outlining the anticipated length and cost of nonemergency treatment will be available to you. You can learn more about your rights as a client at www.cms.gov/nosurprises.

Why don’t you accept health insurance?

Insurance is unpredictable. I find staying out of network allows me to provide a consistent billing experience and gives me freedom to provide the highest possible standard of care.

If you’re using out-of-network benefits, I’m happy to provide a superbill that you can submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement. I also partner with a HIPAA-compliant third party who can handle the entire reimbursement process for you.

Are sessions in person or virtual?

Currently, all sessions are provided virtually.
